Leadership Challenge background

As part of the DevelopmentWA leadership program, teams across the business are tackling challenges that have been put forward by the Executive. One team within this challenge is "Team Bunuru". Team Bunuru has been challenged to rethink what DevelopmentWA might look like as a truly agile organisation over the next three years.

As part of this evaluation, the team will be considering feedback from staff around internal governance and processes to understand the different ways to achieve successful outcomes within the business.

What is an agile organisation?

Agile framework

The term agile is defined as a set of general ideas, efficiency and flexibility in an work environment, with a focus on outputs/outcomes and customer satisfaction. We believe this agile approach can be summarised with the following themes:

  • how we approach and perform our responsibilities and accountabilities as individuals to deliver outcomes for our organisation.
  • how we collaborate as a team to increase productivity.
  • how we best utilise the physical environment in which we work – ie, office fit out and design, fixed desks vs. no allocated desks, meeting rooms, breakout spaces, quiet zones, equipment and tools.
  • how we deliver on outcomes to our customers and meet our strategic objectives.
  • how we are able to adapt to evolving expectations and objectives of our business eg from Government or Board.
  • how we continue to enhance our approach and process to do better things - by doing things better.

Overall, our research suggests that the more agile the organisation, the faster it is to achieve excellent outcomes with minimised red-tape, while still achieving the right level of governance.
