Alkimos Beach - Bathers Park Concept Plan
Alkimos Beach development partners, Lendlease and DevelopmentWA, invite you to provide feedback on the exciting concept plan for Bathers Park.
Bathers Park will be Alkimos Beach’s ‘destination park’ situated at the end of Leatherback Boulevard, nestled in the foothills of the foreshore Conservation Reserve.
The ‘Concept Plan - Have Your Say’ tab below shows the park concept plan and key design inclusions. It also contains a short survey. You can learn more about our vision, design and environmental approach at the tabs below.
It is important to note that this is a concept only and park features are subject to change based on feedback from the community and a comprehensive review by the City of Wanneroo.
Community input is invited to help shape the park design.
Park Vision
The vision for Bathers Park is to bring the beach to the park with theming to focus on Surf Life Saving. It will not only provide quality play and recreation areas but also training spaces for Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club. With a growing population, it is important that Bathers Park provides amenities that are functional and diverse recreational opportunities.
The themed playground will take inspiration from our BeachSAFE culture at Alkimos Beach and will tell a story of Alkimos in a fun and interpretive way.
Being situated alongside our Conservation Reserve, Bathers Park will seek to provide experiences that bond with the natural environment including plenty of green spaces, trees and shrubs to offer shelter and food for local animal species.
Due to its size, Bathers Park is designated as a Neighbourhood Park which means there are some requirements for its design including the number of play elements, BBQs and public toilets.
Park Features
The proposed part features include:
- a prominent entry plaza with large trees, entry statement and piazza space for food trucks
- a beach safety and Surf Life Saving themed play area for children of all ages to enjoy including a mix of climbing, rope, nature, and accessible play items.
- two sand beach volleyball courts that offer both a unique recreational opportunity in the local area and a functional training space for Alkimos SLSC

Environmental Considerations
Alkimos Beach is the first Australian community to achieve a 6-Star Green-Star certification by the Green Building Council of Australia. The community has been purposefully designed in harmony with its natural surrounds with one third reserved for parks, bushlands, and playing fields.
Throughout the estate, the undulating coastal topography provided the opportunity for the retention of landform to add interest and character to the community. Coastal views and the bushland setting of the surrounding regional open space network creates a dramatic backdrop and outlook for the residents.
Bathers Park continues our approach to sustainable planning with considerations to its location, topography, water design and inclusion of native plant species.
Location
Bathers Park is situated alongside our existing Conservation Reserve dune system. Bathers Park will seek to provide experiences that bond to the natural environment and leverage off the existing conservation efforts of our coastal dune system.
Topography
The natural landform will be maintained where possible creating varying grades, inclines and flat areas. The natural shape in addition to the location at the foothills of the dune system will provide natural protection from weather elements like wind. Maintaining the topography will also reduce our requirements for retaining. Master planning has considered costal setbacks and effective dune system vegetation and maintenance to limit erosion.
Flora and fauna
Bathers Park will consist of over 80% native species that will also provide food sources for the Carnaby Cockatoo’s and other native animals.
In Alkimos Beach we have already planted over 3,500 Carnaby Cockatoo primary feeding trees, and nearly 9,000 primary feeding shrubs across our parks and open spaces. Bathers Park and all other future open spaces will provide an additional 4,000 Carnaby Cockatoo feeding trees and over 70,000 shrubs.
Water Sensitive Design
Water Sensitive Urban Design principles are considered throughout Alkimos Beach. In the design of our parks, we aim to direct stormwater to large trees to support street tree growth and canopy cover. Design and works to include specific street tree solutions that supports self-watering from the street and improved growing medium for water retention.
Next steps
We will consider all feedback received and report the results to our Landscape Architect to finalise the park design prior to it being submitted to the the City of Wanneroo for approval submission.
Further information will be provided as the concept plan evolves, and the park plan is finalise.
